Welcome to the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM). It is one of the oldest academic units having been established as the Department of Institutional Management which has since grown to a School over the years.
Hospitality &Tourism industry is one of the largest foreign exchange earners in Kenya and contributes 10% to the GDP as well as the economy. The local industry in Kenya faces challenges in meeting the needs of National tourism development agendas and Vision 2030

OBJECTIVES FOR THE HOSPITALITY, TRAVEL AND TOURISM DEPARTMENT

  1. To increase student capacity in the department by developing/reviewing at least one Programme per year.
  2. To facilitate quality learning and services by ensuring 100% content coverage by the 12th week of the semester
  3. To improve students’ learning experience by organizing at least one (1) relevant academic field trip per academic year.
  4. To improve student commitment to learning by engaging the university counsellor / career coordinator/ industry experts for a motivational talk at least once every year.

OBJECTIVES OF THE SCHOOL OF HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT

  1. To enhance school visibility by updating the school website content every semester
  2. To promote academic publishing by submitting at least two (2) papers for publication per lecturer with PhD and at least one (1) for Master’s degree holders
  3. To enhance funding for the school by writing at least two grants’ proposals per year
  4. To promote academic excellence in the school by ensuring development/ review of at least one curriculum per department per year
  5. To enhance the school image by undertaking at least one (1) community social responsibility (CSR) activity per year.
